Otter House Toronto, ON
Single-family modernisation, reconfiguration and addition to a 1990’s dwelling. The dance of the old and the new. The brief was to give more room to a nice house on a uniquely deep lot with large trees and a river in Toronto, without erasing its original 1950s proportions from the street. At the rear, a generous two-storey volume is cantilevered over a previous 1990’s single storey addition. The addition remains hidden from view a redesigned main roof with hints of the retrofit carried forward through the main entry system canopy and unified fenestration. The interior features reconfigured and retrofit floor plates that wrap a central three-storey atrium, which rises up to the family loft where you sit eye-level with the tree canopy.
