AVA design studio (formerly KAVE Architects) is a multi-disciplinary architecture and interior design office based in Toronto, Canada. The firm is committed to providing high-quality and innovative architectural solutions uniquely suited to the needs and aspirations of users and clients. ‘The practice is delivery’ model is a fundamental belief in the collaborative nature of design and the necessity of its openness for the successful tailoring of design solutions to client needs. Andy M Verhiel - Principal

Andy Verhiel is the founding principle of AVA Design Studio. He has worked extensively in the residential and commercial sector on various facilities, including broadcast studios, retail interiors, large-scale office environments, and home exterior Toronto park projects. He has also become comfortable with the municipal process such as the OMB hearing and committee of adjustment through the construction of many private residential and multi-residential projects such as the Bowden loft project on the Danforth and Citation House.

Andy’s passion for innovative housing solutions can be seen in a variety of custom home projects and creative apartment unit creations. As an architect, his responsibilities include the management of projects of varying sizes while maintaining responsibilities for conceptual design, construction drawings, and site review.

James Waterfall - Senior Architectural Designer

James Waterfall is a highly accomplished job captain and architectural designer with over 17 years of experience in the field. He holds an interior design degree from Ryerson University and is currently working through the rigorous RAIC program. He has held design responsibilities in a broad range of fields from Architecture, Automotive Product Planning, and cutting-edge Patient Tracking Systems. He knows about design, codes and costing, public housing, community centers, transit stations, municipal approvals, zoning by-laws, designing for LEED certification, accessibility, and branding.

Aislin Mac Donald - Intermediate Intern Architect

Aislin Mac Donald is a budding intern architect, designer, and artist. She has worked in architecture, interior design, and construction on projects with a variety of scopes and budgets across Toronto and the GTA.

In 2017 she assisted her firm in winning a National Design Award of Honor from the Society of American Registered Architects for the Wolf Conversation Center in New York State. She has experience working on residential projects as well as hospitality and landscape work.
